Hats: They're Evil

FEAR ME
Having a home office offers several benefits, not the least of which is having Peanut by my side most of the day. We've recently instituted Coffee Shop Wednesdays, which entails taking our iBooks to a local coffee shop that offers free wireless access and cheap lattes on Wednesday. Today we tried Floppy Hat Fridays, but it turns out that Hats Are Evil. Although this isn't a photo from today, it depicts perfectly the reaction Peanut had to the big floppy hats. Peanut's entire posture is designed to intimidate: leaning forward, beak open, eyes glowering, flames are just about to burst from his mouth. (Thanks to Fizzy for the photo.)

In retrospect, the event was doomed to fail: not only does the brim interfere with shoulder perching, the hat itself ruins the top-of-the-head landing field. Still, who knew hats were evil?

Come Out And Play With Me

I've mentioned before that Frank and Sally are early risers. Now that Sally's dead, though, Frank is all alone first thing in the morning. Sunrise is around 6 am these days, but I can hear Frank rustling long before that. Sometimes I'll sneak out to the kitchen early, and watch everybody get up. If I'm quiet enough to keep from disturbing Peanut (who rouses the rest when he squeaks at me), I can watch a sweet moment: Frank sitting on the porch of the nest box the Societies sleep in, peeping and singing his Hunka Hunka Burning Love song, trying to wake them up. I've posted a photo of Frank on the porch before, click here to see it again.
