He's Still Dead (Unfortunately)

Posted on: 01/16/07, 18:44:27
Peanut's still here....
You may have noticed that the recent site redesign did not entirely eliminate all references to Peanut. This is partly because — Hey! It hasn't been that long since he died, and he was Master of the Universe and all.

Also, he is still in the freezer, and will remain there until either 1) he rises from the dead as a small but menacing zombie, capable of devouring a human brain in 32,467 tiny nibbles of love bone-crunching chomps from his Nasty Beak Of Biting; or 2) we get ready to move, which will either result in A) me crying over his small plastic tub for awhile; B) me finally deciding to (probably) cremate him; or C) probably both. (Well, actually, I'm kinda hoping for #1. Wouldn't that be COOL?!?!?)

And finally also, because I've discovered a butt-load of photographs of him on my old computer. Here's one:

I still think about Peanut — not all the time, but, you know, all the time. Just the other day I was in the hardware store glancing at things on shelves thinking, "now that would make a nice Peanut toy!" (Well, almost everything would make a nice Peanut toy.) He really came to shape my whole life, which isn't surprising, considering I lived with him for nine years.

Oh! And he was Master of the Universe and all.

The funny thing is that in my mind, he was so big, so important, so present. I have to remind myself how small he was, physically. Tiny green bird with the heart of an eagle.

So, depending on my mood, I figure I'll post some of the best pictures of Peanut that are as yet unpublished.

If you're in the mood, I would certainly enjoy seeing more pictures of the Master of the Universe. I have a goodly number saved on my hard drive at work, where they form part of my screen saver to cheer me when I'm working on a slow, dull task. One of them, for example, is the picture of him sitting on a bowl of Cheerios with the box behind him, and the words "Reduces your cholesterol" clearly visible.

Yes, please post more Peanut photos! Not being you, I sometimes wake up without the awareness that he's not still alive, and it always stuns me when it hits home again. I miss his regular appearance on my monitor. Any photos you feel like sharing will be most welcome.

I love the big closeup, although it makes my preenin' fingers itch...

By the way, I've been looking for Harvey for you. Have you considered, however, that the pellets from a bunny that size might be around the diameter of a Hazelnut? I really think you'd be much happier with Bunnicula...

Dude, Harvey would take up your whole living room.

I'm sorry you're still sad about Peanut. Maybe moving him out of your freezer and into a tiny little urn would be a good thing.

Don't hold back on those pictures though.

More photos of Peanut are coming!

The Harvey references, by the way, come from the story that hit the media recently about a German fellow who breeds enormous rabbits. North Korea has bought a few breeding pairs to see if they could be a viable food source. Personally, I think they'd make much better pets than food. Although Jen is right, one of these 23-pound rabbits would totally take up my living room - and Nance is right, their pellets would be really (disgustingly) big. Here's an article about it, with an amazing photograph:

And in case that article disappears, here is the photograph:

Although the movie Harvey is one of my favorites!
